I like the color, the composition, and the technique on this. It packs a wallop. The water is almost like a tarp with creases and all. Well done!

interesting take on the theme, but not hugely impactful.

This took me a little while to figure out if I was looking at sand or water, because given the theme I was expecting water. But now I see that you are showing the effects of water without the water actually being present. If that is in fact what I am looking at, that's very thoughtful and a cool idea!
I sort of wish there was either slightly more or slightly less detail though. I feel like the sepia color is doing too much work and there isn't enough texture or silhouette (one or the other) to make this a really powerful image for me.

I like this image a lot... Its one that draws you in and makes you want to "gaze" at it for a long while. It has a slow-motion feeling that I find very calming. And the copper tones are beautiful.

I'm glad you all like it. It's a series that I've been working on for some time. It is the sand underneath the various piers in Southern California. In this case it's underneath the Santa Monica pier. There's a lot of luck in involved, because the time of day needs to match the tide.
The shot is actually in color - there's no sepia filter applied.
Varner, I'm glad you read it that way. It's the effect I'm going for, but it is one of the few ones that has worked as intended so far.
