I've noticed that many of the featured images have been in b/w. I wonder why that is. Here's another beautiful b/w tree shot, classical in it's composition with a lovely, natural feel to it. It could be improved, I think, with a very careful shortening of the tonal range to get a crisper white in the brightest highlights and a true black int he deepest shadows.

I know the forest is dark, but this is a little to dark for me.

It is dark there, but if you look at the highlight areas that, they are bordeline blown.

This was shot last March early on my foray into shooting Digital and hadn't really shot anything much other than snaps of my kids in about 25 years, so I was more than rusty.

It was shot as JPEG, (I had no editing software and didn't know anything about it.) I don't normally edit JPEG images, other than a little black and white conversion and maybe some dodging and burning. I'm under the impression that it isn't a good idea to do a great deal of post processing on JPEG images...is that an incorrect assumption?

I only shoot RAW now with both cameras. I obtained CS2 last August.

CaptureThis,
I use Photoshop CS2, but don't own a digital camera and have little experience with RAW files, so I'll let the experts hold forth.

Thanks...I am a relative newcomer to digital, only about 1 year and only using CS2 since August.

It's good to see you back!
