The selective focus here is subtle, but effective. Since it's critical to be able to discern some details of the out-of-focus background for this to work, I think you made a the right choice. This is cool.

I agree that the dof that you choose was perfect for this, any larger of an apeature and the photo would not have been the same, any smaller any it also would have been altered too much.
