Yes the light was very harsh, this was taken in mid-day on the Northwestern tip of Oahu. The reason I took it is that it was the furthest away that I had ever been from home.

The socks were a special kind of hiking socks. I can walk forever with those.

I like the composition, but the time of day is probably not best for this shot...although I'm sure some will think it's perfect. Did you consider peeing on the rocks (other otherwise wetting them), to bring out some color and contrast?
