I like the porcessing here but wish the yellow parking line wasn't there.

Ana said 524 days ago:

this is a great car, and a wonderful photograph with attractive processing. I don't like that yellow line, however. I would have totally desaturated that part of the shot. My eye keeps getting pulled to that strong, yellow. so, pretty much high marks!

mooch said 524 days ago:

Not sure about the post-processing but it fits the bill.

SeekingFocus said 524 days ago:

Thanks for the comments. I never even considered the yellow line being distracting... I'll have to give that some thought.

Also, I have B&W version that I considered posting that perhaps addresses that problem, but in the end I chose this one.

Any thoughts?

P.S. I posted this shot just for psychododu:
"Whew, classic VT! I only wish it was a Chevy Impala! ;-)"

I hope we don't see too many more "old" cars, even though the tones are lovely in this.

SeekingFocus said 524 days ago:

@psychododu,

But this one was just for you!

Ana said 524 days ago:

hee hee. I love it when that happens. Click on a photo and BAM!!

yay!

SeekingFocus said 524 days ago:

@ana,

Thanks!

Also, I've been thinking about what you said about the yellow line. Coincidentally, I just got some giant enlargements of this shot made and the came in the mail today. I'm looking at the prints, and still can't decide. I really liked the yellow at first, but your comments have me wondering.

I think I'll give it a try desaturating that line, get another print made and compare 'em side by side!

Thanks for getting me thinking, either way... I love it when someone else can bring something to your attention that you never would have noticed in your own work!

Rohan said 524 days ago:

Love the processing here however, i do find the yellow line distracting. Maybe should be desaturated slightly? Still. Fantastic image! :)

SeekingFocus said 524 days ago:

Hehe, a second (or third) opinion! Thanks Rohan!

Looks like I've got work to do!

King said 524 days ago:

My guy! I like the color better than the b/w because the color jumps out at me and the b/w doesn't seem special by comparison. I'd probably get rid the of the yellow paint altogether, but desaturate for sure. I like the street the car is parked on.

Nice work. Congratulations.

Ana said 524 days ago:

Yeah. now that I'm looking at it again, I think King could be right..get rid of that all together. Not with cropping, but cloning. Fun stuff!! Love this image!

Flatline said 524 days ago:

I like the yellow. It gives it tension. Without it, it would just be a wide shot of the car grille. The yellow is good.

SeekingFocus said 524 days ago:

I'm torn!

I'll play around with it for sure and see what I can come up with. Thanks for all the helpful comments!

subjektiv said 522 days ago:

seen this shot before, and i still like it a lot. don't get rid of the yellow line, please don't - in my opinion it's essential for the impact of the photo.

Great pic, I love the old yellow line.

King said 522 days ago:

Whatever kurt subjectiv says, I'd go with that. Money in the bank. (but, of course, he's weird--not that there's anything wrong with that)

Ana said 522 days ago:

yeah, now I'm leaning toward liking the line..seeing that without it, it wouldn't have the tension it has, and it would then, just be plain.

keep yellow!

SeekingFocus said 522 days ago:

Hi everyone! Thanks again for the extremely helpful comments and conversation.

I did play around with it and tried a few different things, and I think the line must stay! I tried desaturating it and (maybe I wasn't doing it correctly) but it just seemed strange... why is the parking line gray? Also, I feel a crop is out of the question since I shot this intentionally with the wide angle. When I shot it I thought about a different angle that would have excluded the yellow line, but I chose to keep it in. So, I could (maybe) clone it, but this was printed at 24x36", and I'm afraid that any editing of that sort might be obvious at that size... Also, if it were cloned, there would be an empty space at the bottom of the frame, and the composition would be a bit off anyway.

So, I'll keep the yellow. Again, thanks for all the debate! It's sure nice to have such a variety of opinions from so many photographers who's own work I appreciate.

King said 522 days ago:

Jason,
Jason,

No argument with your decisions. Just for conversation, though, I think that if done well, the retouching would not be visible at 24"x36". As for the potential empty space at the bottom of the frame...a perfect place for your name, in large, bold YELLOW letters.

:>)

King said 522 days ago:

...and one more thing. I've decided that, subliminally, the yellow is the top of the number 7...another reason for this shot to be featured.

:>) again

SeekingFocus said 522 days ago:

For my business card, eh?

Again, I'm not incredibly skilled in Photoshop, partially because I tend not to apply such manipulations to my images in general, so I'm just not so well versed in it. I'm sure someone (who knew what they were doing) could do quite a nice job of it, but I doubt I could!

And yes, that is a number seven, not a parking line. I guess I should have mentioned that in the first place and this entire conversation could have been avoided! ;)
