How very intriguing this image is... This is a terrific multi-layered juxtaposition, really works for me. Love the way the foot is totally planted, shadow and all, but the leg is totally in motion. The stark image on the k-rail is in total contrast to the bright image beyond. The gradient of the road way leads you right along thur the image. Even the manhole cover in the lower left, which otherwise might be distracting, give the eye a great place to start its diagonal trip thru the image.

Did I say I like this??

I like it as is, as I said your eye really travels well through this image, to no small degree because of the "pull" of that section of the image.

Art photo. I can't see that the bright areas beyond the barricade are adding much to the photo. I'd try to do something about that. Otherwise, I like this a lot.

...my two cents. Because the bright areas are both overexposed and contain details that the eye can make out (the man's but in blue), the are a liability. You can cope with this either by cropping (as you hint) or by masking, blurring, etc., those areas.

A wonderfully atmospheric image with great texture and composition. My one niggle would be to get rid of the man behind the barricade, but that is minor.

oh, I'd not crop this at all, but i might work on the highlights a bit. It's a very artsy shot.

@Ana : "were you laying on the ground, or in a stairwell?" - no, only shot this with a tripod - early in the morning in a small passage..!
