love the detail of this shot.

Dynamite shot! Absolutely super. Makes me think this must be SUBJEKTIV. Congrats to both the photographer and the artist of the image on the stamp. The fact that it's a 32 year old stamp adds to the success of the shot, and I just love the white end along the perforated edges. Fantastic fantastic fantastic. I can only imagine this will see home page real estate.

Maybe it's just me, but with what is this photo more than a document of a post stamp? What is it saying?

George said 1139 days ago:

gazdi, that's all it is. a document of a post stamp. but it happens to be 30 or 50 times bigger than life size and therefore allows you to enjoy all the detail* it offers. moreover, it's not only a finely produced macro, but also an opportunity to relish the work of the artist who drew the picture on the stamp and the history of stamp making/collecting. i could go on and on, but i'll stop with this: the choice of stamp, its date, its color, presenting it against a black background with just that much border around the end of the stamp, the details in the fuzzy white perforated edges, the umlaut on the O. did i imply i wouldn't go on and on? if so, it was only an implication, not a promise. to my mind and eye this is a highly enjoyable photo that speaks to me on many levels.

again, King, fantastic shot...and if it doesn't get featured that's only a loss to those who didn't get a chance to see it.

Gosh, George, are you for hire? I need a good PR person. As you (George) probably guessed, this image was a statement about the meaning of the term Macro (cf. the WS Google group on this topic). It's the only true macro I have in my archives, as far as I recall.

I agree with gazdi that there isn't much in the way of composition creativity outside the faithful reproduction of the subject, and raters seem to agree. However, I think your appreciation of what a macro allows us to see is the point.

With 16 ratings:
* Relevance: 3.82
* Impact: 3.11
* Composition: 3.00
* Technique: 3.44
* Quality: 3.63
* Overall: 3.4

When we look even closer, getting into photomicrography, then texture and detail become more the point of the exercise in those outstandingly beautiful and fascninating photographs.

Thanks for all the kind remarks.

I am for hire, King. But I ain't cheap. Unless I'm buying. Then I'm really cheap.

Well, anyway, this is just such a lovely feast for the eyes. It brings me delight to look at it. I'd love to know all the details about the names/designations, what type of paper it's made of, the history behind it, etcetera etcetera. I don't expect you to know all that. I'm just continuing to clarify my interest in the stamp.

It's too bad it may not get featured, but I will make mention of it in the Google group because I think it ought to be shared.

Cheers.
