Very nice image! I especially like the use of the back lighting to highlight the little boy's shirt. I think this image is especially strong in B&W (well, actually more of a sepia toned image) and think in color it would be less dramatic. Excellent all around!

lovely :)

the composition just feels a bit off to me, but i cant think why..

Montage said 284 days ago:

Lovely tones and mood in this shot. But i keep finding myself drawn to the kid on the other base, and wondering why he seems to have something over his face.

ArneG said 284 days ago:

Total winner - I love it and what a perfect exposure. Nice

JimiThing said 284 days ago:

@Montage - hahaha I never saw it that way, but you are right it does look like he has something covering his face. Actually, he has a helmet on and is looking down at his shoes.

Doesn't get much better than this!! Great shot, very strong relevance, great interest/impact. Nice work to get the back of the shirt looking pretty natural with the strong backlight.

Fantastic.

Cute but a little too fuzzy

philimages said 283 days ago:

A very intersting picture and a good relevance. Nice job ;-)

JimiThing said 283 days ago:

@zorilla - the "fuzy" is actually dust from the runner on first. At this age they like to kick the dirt up more than they like to run! The sunlight in the background lit it up and created the effect. Thanks.

Im sure we've seen this little guy before somewhere - a different pose though. Nice edge lights, thought the bottom of the frame feels a little too dark. Overall very good

Congrats JimiThing!!

Wow, the first feature. Awesome.

For those who don't know, this photo is inspired by the poem by Ernest Thayer, Casey at the Bat. Specifically the last verse:

"Oh, somewhere in this favored land the sun is shining bright;
The band is playing somewhere, and somewhere hearts are light,
And somewhere men are laughing, and somewhere children shout;
But there is no joy in Mudville - mighty Casey has struck out."
