The monotone quality isn't as impacting for me, something about the creamy wased tone isn't compelling, but I like the angles and leading lines and most definitely the curves.

Noice point and counterpoint, subtle tones, nice curves. I think your camera focused itself on the wrong spot...i.e., I think the point of focus could be better, but an appealing photo all the same.

@king
where do you think is the right focus point?

King said 613 days ago:

Hi, Vernon,

Given that we are talking about artistic decisions here (i.e., no right or wrong), and other than simply stopping down the lens...

The sharpest point of focus appears to be approximately where the bottom or middle rail meets the vertical brace, under the edge of the table, and that does not seem to be where one would want to draw the eye.

Although it is a major component of your photo, I don't think that any point on the curve of the table edge is in focus.

Therefore, it seems to me that the top rail, closer to center, might be a better point of focus, which may also have enhanced the sharpness of the important curve of the table edge.

With respect,

the lens used is the ef 1,2L completely open.
it was manualy focused without a fixed point. composed and focused for the best overall look & feel without having exagerate blur. I took this shot today at the burger king in düsseldorf.

@Vernon
...the 85mm? Fabulous lens!

I have no argument with your ability to find the right point of focus, Vernon. It just seemed to me that what you took to be the "best overall look & feel" might have been what I would have chosen. Given that you didn't use a fixed point, did you bracket your focal point? If not, then there is no way to compare, is there?

I don't hear you being defensive, Vernon (more as curious), and I didn't mean my original remark to be any more than the slightest constructive criticism.

Did you have fries with that?

VernonTrent said 613 days ago:

@king

it is only this one shot. more occasionaly then planned. it was ok for me and it is ok for one of my customers. it has been sold some minutes ago :-)
regarding your criticism, I don't need to be defensive. I respect and consider criticism in case that I can do something better or not.
there is one thing to "hear/read" the crits and another thing to transpond the crits into the shot. not always crowned by success. :-)

please feel free to say everything you want :-) I don't have fries with that.

Vernon,

I'm pleased to be the first to congratulate you on another fine featured image. Why don't you tell everyone on WS what the print sold for? I'll give you $25 for an 8x10 if you'll throw in free shipping.

VernonTrent said 612 days ago:

@king :-)
no problem!

yes, on request of my agent, I did a different version of this shot. the sold version is here:
