ChriZ said 575 days ago:

Woa, huuuge! Well framed!
High marks!

... what's her name?

JIMJIM said 575 days ago:

WOW !!

CraigMartin said 575 days ago:

That is big! Where is this? Is that supposed to Joan d'Arc? In terms of the shot, I think it could have benefitted from some greater contrast and saturation in the area of the grass.

Big lady! Is that in Russia?

dennis said 575 days ago:

Holy smokes. That's a big woman. Didn't see the people in the thumbnail and thought it was just a fairly average size statue that had been taken from an low angle to give it some grandure. Got quite a surprise when I opened up the full sized image. I get the central composition, but I'd be interested to see other takes with the statue not centred.

King said 575 days ago:

Whoa, baby!

King said 575 days ago:

Okay, Andrew, lay your hand on the WeeklyShot rule book and swear that this is not a Photoshop composite. How in the world could a statue that big support itself? Is it made out of papier-mache or fiberglas?

Otherwise, tell me where it is because I want to go there and gawk.

King said 575 days ago:

I looked it up. Blizzard is correct...located in Volgograd (was Stalingrad). 270 feet tall vs. the Statute of Liberty (not counting the base) at 151 feet.

Astounding.

Featured! Wow! Thank you very much!

This is a statue of Motherland in Volgograd. The shot is taken this summer. This is a fragment of the Mamaev Kurgan Memorial, what is devoted to Battle of Stalingrad in 1942-1943. It is very important fight in WWII. You can read about it on the Wikipedia:

@ChriZ: I don't know, what is her name...

@King: The material of the statue is reinforced concrete, not a papier-mache.

ChriZ said 575 days ago:

@klimin, you at least have her number? =)
Allthough she has this sword,... and I haven't had any good experiences lately with those spiky things!

... nevermind

... it's late, early, gotta go sleep now.
