Nice shot - very relevant to the theme. Well done.

Ana said 624 days ago:

Yes, this is wonderful...and familiar!

jbron said 624 days ago:

Excellent !

philippe said 624 days ago:

Too much dark space, the character is too small and doesn't communicate a feeling of solitude, the framing is expected and conventional, etc.
Does that sound "nitpicker" enough?
Of course I think this is an excellent shot.
But I have the feeling it's already been submitted and, from now on, I'v decided to give low ratings to repostings. My apologies if I'm wrong.

King said 624 days ago:

This is not the self-portrait theme. I've seen this before. Has this been featured in the past?
Should I rate this exceptional photograph, since I know the author?

I'm conflicted.

CraigMartin said 623 days ago:

Stunning shot. The composition and lighting are just perfect.

Woah! He's alone!

great tones here and the panoramic works so well!

A lovely mono. The expression on the face is the only thing missing for me.

Yep. It's a re-post. I think this is the first time I have re-posted an image. I know for certain, it is the first time I have re-posted an image that was featured before.

Normally, I wouldn't but in this case "alone" is the specific feeling I had in mind when I actually created this image, rather than "silence" which is the theme that it was previously featured in.

@philippe no need to apologize. I think it might be better to simply not rate images that are re-posted though, instead of giving them low ratings. I know there was just a thread on this in the discussion group. We all agree that it is possible someone may have an image that is a perfect fit for more than one theme. I guess it remains to be seen what the correct etiquette is for re-posting images, particularly those that have been featured before. I appreciate your comments as always though.

Jarett, my "philosophy" is that what we're doing here has something to do with creativity and , when you pretend to be creative, you should be ashamed to post twice the same work, even if it fits the theme. I think it's a lack of respect to "your" public and to yourself. Why not post the same image in "dark", "night", "one", ... and so on?
For me, you're amongst the most creative persons of this site and maybe that's why I'm a bit disappointed...
I've seen a couple of crappy (IMO) pics featured twice, that's why I've decided to give low ratings to images I've already seen.

gorin-images said 623 days ago:

Well Phillipe....I guess I take that as a compliment. And I have to say, the way you have put it, I guess I agree with you. My caveat is I think it might be OK to post an image that maybe didn;t get featured in the first theme in which is was submitted, but might fit a new theme. But I think you are right. The goal is to creatively interpret a theme, not to see ho wmany featured images you can rack up. Thanks for elaborating on your original point.

I'm only going to comment on one portion of this conversation. I'd like to say that I don't think it's fair to rate a shot low, just because it's been used before. I just think you should pass it by, and let someone rate it fairly.

Dont remember where exactly I've seen this before, but it fits here great. Terrific idea, composition and lighting.

cdcootie said 623 days ago:

Excellent in every way but I'm guessing ahead of time the 14 comments I've yet to read have to do with this previously being featured in self portraits. I guess I'm of the don't double dip school but there is no where to work that into the rating side as the photo itself is excellent across the board (again) :)

Great shot. I liked it when it was originally featured...and I still like it. I'm sure a larger version would render more expression on the face, which could be interesting in and of itself, but to me this captures the feeling of night travel by train which I've done many times and enjoy. When you're on a platform and look across at another platform many tracks away, people almost become faceless as it can be difficult to make out their expression.

On the subject of reposting images: I enjoy seeing this image again. Does having it appear in the pool of available images to rate lower the chance another image will get featured? Highly unlikely. In fact, I can't think of a reasonable explanation of why that would happen. So, what difference does it make? If anything it's the photographer's "loss," not mine. He's lost a chance to make and post a new, unseen image. Rating an image low simply because it's been featured before appears silly, and also appears only to "punish" its maker for some inane reason. Furthermore, there is no explicit rule saying this can't be done.

I haven't done it yet, but in the past I've been tempted to post the same image for every theme just to have some fun. This might have just pushed me over the edge :-)

dcreighton said 622 days ago:

Well I personally think an image should be rated just on it's merits alone and not for who the photographer is or may be. If an image is posted twice and a viewer knows who took it perhaps just pass it by without rating it. However that being said I'm personally more of the mind frame that the challenge is to come up with new images, or see your other existing files in new ways, for each theme. I don't necessarily think it is wrong for others to resubmit images (especially if they weren't used in very recent themes or been featured previously) but for me it is more of a personal choice to focus on the challenge of presenting fresh work as that is what inspires me about this whole WS environment.

I hadn't seen, or maybe more accurately, taken notice of this image before. For me it fits the theme superbly and from a technical and artistic level I really love it. The panoramic format and dark tones with the subtle but effective lighting through out really makes this image standout in the crowd IMHO.
