A meta-image...a photo about things that are about looking up, which invites us to ask the question, "What is up?" Astronomical telescopes don't so much look up, but out, away from the earth, or back in time. We don't see the telescope, nor where it is pointed. We don't see the astronomer, looking up to see if the seeing will be good tonight. We don't see any stars, which would be one possible reason to look up with the telescope.
Not seeing, we must use our imagination. I imagine that there is a big New Year's Eve party going inside the dome and at exactly midnight they are going to open the dome and blast the moon with a brilliant laser pulse.

...and we cannot assume that Zac doesn't know what he's doing. I'll be interested to know your ratings on this one, Zac, oh great photographer of the fish-catching eagle.

I like this interpretation. Using an observatory is really quite clever!

Lovely lighting. Good choice to shoot it in low light.

This image doens't pop for me. I think its an observatory and its a fun play on the theme, but I wish there were stars in the image or something to play it out more and make it more compelling.

Zac,
Not bad, IMHO. I think I gave you all fours (I'm a BIG astronomy fan), so that fits.

I'm glad to see that folks weren't too reactionary with their ratings, and that's what I thought might happen. I'm a student of ratings.

Thanks!

Thanks King. Personally, I think it's one of the strongest images in the theme because it digs beneath the surface a bit more than most of the rest... though I can see why it's not everyone's cup of tea.

King said 644 days ago:

Zac...you expect WS critics to dig beneath the surface? I'm not sayting it's not my cup of tea. My original remarks were sincere--except for the imaginatin part at the end--is that what you are talking about...digging?
